The featured artists of this exhibition, Martine Jardel and Thierry Rosset, are former members of the international French consular service community. They shared love of travel, their work, and the joy of art. They have shown their work in Paris, Notre-Dame de Portbail (Normandy), and San Francisco.
Exploring the space between representation and abstraction, Martine Jardel calls her paintings “a departure from certainty.” Suggesting landscapes, layers of color and rich textures are juxtaposed on the canvas, rendering an atmospheric quality specific to each painting. Depth, luminosity, and subtlety in her painting presents work that emanates with balance and a sense of calm.
Rosset’s work explores the cleanliness of line in linocuts with an eye to forms that create balance and rhythm. His work invites the viewer in, to experience a place of calm that vibrates and establishes a larger whole.
